OGDENSBURG CITY CLERK DEATH RECORD #4103
James LaFlair, son of James LaFlair (born in Canada) and Catherine (born in
Canada), died 29 September 1900.

COMMENTS
James Jr. worked as a cooper. His first three children, Kitty, Elizabeth and
louis were born in Canada. The others were born in the United States,
indicating that he came to the U.S. sometime between 1868 and 1871.

Following added March, 2004, from Marda LaFlair:
LAFLAIR/LAFLEUR
1861 Wolford Township Census, Ontario, Canada
James Laflair & Emily …..they immigrated to the United States in 1864.
Before immigrating:
James Lafleur was living in Wolford Township, Ontario, across the St. Lawrence River in Ontario, Canada,
1861 Canadian Census
James Lafleur , Cooper 44 born 1817 in Lower Canada
His wife is Emily Lafleur (Plouffe) born 1829 in Montebello, Quebec Lower Canada
Joseph is 12 born in Upper Canada that would make it (1849)
John is 10 born in Upper Canada “ “ (1851)
Charles is 7 born in Upper Canada “ “ (1854)
Adaline is 6 born in Upper Canada “ “ (1855)
Lewis is 4 born in Upper Canada “ (1857)
Mary is 2 born in Upper Canada “ “ (1859)
Note Adaline & Lewis, their names before immigrating to U.S.
Emily Plouffe was born 6 December 1829 in Montebello, Quebec
She married James Lafleur on 4 September 1847 in the Holy Cross Church Register at Kemptville, Oxford-on-the Rideau Township, Ontario. Directly North of Prescott. A witness to their wedding was Pier Bick which was probably Beique dit LaFleur with the priest having difficulty spelling it.
James Laflair’s real name was Jean Baptiste Beique dit LaFleur.
This note was from Larry LaFlair's work.
In order to differentiate between all the LaFleur’s in Quebec, they were allowed to use another family name, place of origin or a name to identify their family from all the others, hence Beique dit LaFleur.
James Laflair died in 1900 at age 83.
From original books I took notes from in library in 1981 in Ogdensburg Library
Handwritten books:
1870 Census – Oswegatchie
LaFlair Andrew age 30 Day Labourer from Canada
Caroline age 28 wife
Sardinia Age 4 daughter
John age 2 son
LaFlair Solomon age 52 Day Labourer
Elizabeth age 38 wife
Sarah age 22 daughter
Delcina age 14 daughter
John age 12 son
Mary age 4 daughter
** Viancour Francis age 98 mother of Solomon from Canada - this was hand-written in the census book.
I found a Joseph Lafleur living in Edwardsburg in the 1820 Canadian Census with a wife and three sons. Could this be Solomon's father? I will have to look for church records and land records in the Ontario Archives because the census' up to 1860 don't ask for much information.
Note of Interest: There is another Viancour Family living in Ogdensburg at the same time. They were known for metal work.
There is Thomas Viancour living across the river in Edwardsburg, Grenville. East of Prescott. In 1871. He was born in the U.S. in 1811. and is 60 years of age.
*** Just of interest: I believe my William LaFlair from Ogdensburg is a brother to your Andrew LaFlair….who you list in your research. That would make Solomon LaFlair and Elizabeth Bean their parents.
I am sending for William’s death certificate in Ogdensburg between 1872 and 1881. He was married to Carrie A. Bean born 14 Oct. 1849 in Ogdensburg. Daughter of Solomon Bean and Catharine Bean. I will keep you posted. Looking at the 1870 Ogdensburg Census page 655 B Catharine McCarty and Mary Bean living next to Andrew & Solomon were witnesses to William and Caroline's wedding.
We know that Solomon LaFlair and Elizabeth Bean gave birth to
Andrew Laflair born July 7, 1845 Mary A. 18
Sarah J. 1848 Wilbert 1864
George 1852
Delcina 1856
John 1858

Boyer, Samuel (b. 1896, d. 1 MAY 1935)
Note: COMMENTS
Samuel served in World War I with Co. D of the 107th infantry, AEF (American
Expeditionary Force) in France and was considered some kind of hero, although
I don't know what he did. He worked for the New York Central Railroad. Most
of his life he lived in Syracuse at 119 Fountain St., where he moved in 1918
after finishing his military service. He was forced to retire from the
railroad due to ill health around 1932. I have many pictures of Samuel.
