Richard was born in 1918, a year older than Earl and died tragically Jan. 2, 1931, while sledding with his younger brother on New York Ave. Earl described this accident in this chapter of his autobiography and for years, even after he was married, had nightmares about it. These are the only two pictures known of Dick, at left, and at right play fighting with his oldest brother, Pete.
